"Beauty & The Beast" Porcelain Folklore Egg

$75.00

Our Folklore collection of porcelain eggs draws inspiration from Pysanky, a Ukrainian tradition of egg decorating that originated in Pagan times. Handcrafted in fine porcelain and painted in rich cranberry red, each egg showcases a scene from a beloved story alongside traditional Pysanky motifs.

The "Beauty & The Beast" egg features a central tableau with the figures of Beauty and the Beast standing in tender reverence before a radiant rose. While the cultivated rose is typically featured as the iconic symbol of the story, we chose to depict a five-petaled wild rose to represent natural beauty. Flower motifs, or kvivka, are widespread in traditional pysanky designs and are a symbol of beauty, fertility, and abundance.

Surrounding the central scene is an outer border that combines several traditional motifs from pysanky design. Four-petaled flowers, evoking notions of beauty and fertility, intertwine with wolves' teeth, a traditional border motif arranged in a row of triangles to represent malevolence. Rams' horns, an ancient symbol of spring renewal and male fertility, echo themes of transformation and rebirth. Interlaced with these motifs is the resheto, a crosshatched net design believed to ward off evil spirits. Together, these elements weave together the timeless themes of inner nature, patience, transformation, and redemption found within the tale of Beauty and the Beast.

Whether showcased on a mantelpiece, nestled in a decorative bowl, or gifted to a loved one, these eggs serve as captivating conversation starters, inviting you to delve into their intricate symbolism and return to the enchantment and wonder of classic folktales.

Each egg measures approximately 2.5 inches in length.
